today jonah needed pictures of his family for spanish class. like all good parents, nancy saw this as an "educable moment" and an opportunity to do one of her kids art projects.
jonah thought he was just asking for pictures...but nancy saw this as an chance to model how one can make messy situations "look good". through the art of collage nancy makes jonah's divorced family look "together". the iPhoto fishbowl lense adds gaity and hipness while the "brady bunch/warhol" appropriation makes life at this house look frenetic and fun.
as an artform, collage is great for making disparate elements look like they belong together.
to nancy, whipping up a good collage to spin your child's experience of his stupid parent's divorce is not only a mitzvah, it's no different than knowing which pants makes your butt look best. it requires honesty, a holocaust survivor's instincts and an Intel iMac with photoshop.
today nancy is wearing adidas athetlic shorts and a Velvet tee pulled together with a periwinkle cashmere sweater and orange flip flops from j crew. she slept in this outfit which allowed her to be dressed when the kids got up.
